A new agricultural revolution...or: The benefit of green energy (1)....

Each farmer his own windmill..... on each mountain top.
Construction of a windmill 100 m high (without blades), Fichtelgebirge, Germany, 2007.
Leasing land to an energy company for constructing a windmill gives a much higher profit with less work

Scenic hunger for energy:
Similarly, the increasing cultivation of rape-seed serves to produce diesel fuel - with doubtful consequences for the CO2 balance (see National Geographic Magazine 10/2007). On the other hand, the decreased growth of other crops due to lack of space in Germany already leads to increased prices of milk products and beer

Damine Hirst sees the real creative act as being the conception, not the execution, and that, as the progenitor of the idea, he is therefore the artist:

Art goes on in your head," he says. "If you said something interesting, that might be a title for a work of art and I'd write it down. Art comes from everywhere. It's your response to your surroundings. There are on-going ideas I've been working out for years, like how to make a rainbow in a gallery. I've always got a massive list of titles, of ideas for shows, and of works without titles.[8]

Less is more... Annals of the dead (1)

Who is Piet?
The only grave with a simple cross stands out on the graveyard of Egmond binnen - next to such heavy names as "van der Vloed-Goldschmieding" or "Veltkamp-Boersen" - and - asks for attention. Why did Piet only get a simple cross? Who was he? Nobody could tell us.....

Meanwhile globalisation has reached funerals. A friend just went to the cremation of his Buddhist master in Australia - flying from Europe for a stay of two days only. And the ashes will travel as well - to Vietnam, where the family of the deceased wants to get it strewn into a river.
And my friend will watch.... after another flight from Europe.

Good grief

Our future - everything fake

Cows enjoy the gras cover of the parking structure of a shopping center - like a reminder how more and more nature is consumed and replaced by built up areas.
Rijswijk, The Netherlands

Investing in our future

A school is demolished and replaced by eight rich man's houses. The children in the school behind enjoy their lessons in containers. And later, the rich buyers of the houses probably will complain about the bad schools of their children....

Medieval delusion

The backside of the pre-reformation sculpture of the "ruler of the world" is eaten up by vermin. It is only one of the many hidden hints to medieval fraud. The church was finished in 1515, the city became protestant in 1525. Other pictures show Justitia behaving like a whore or noblemen stealing money. Apparently famous artists like Veit Stoss, Peter Visser and Adam Kraft responsible for the decoration of the church were influential enough to defy the orders of their customers.
